Lesteria is an experimental sound artist who blends multiple layers of her own spoken word vocals, allowing her to perform simultaneously as different incarnations of herself, exploring the harmony and dissonance of her competing inner voices. This debut LP, spatium, features nine original tracks, one of which (“Won't you come for dinner?”) depicts a dinner party attended by several of her characters. Inspired by this track, and wanting to convey the effect of Lesteria speaking in multiple characters at once, we conceived an album cover that orchestrates reenacts the dinner party.
Lesteria dressed as each of the characters who appear on the track, and we photographed them one at a time against a green screen, so that we could join them together in the final picture. Video footage from this shoot is also being used to create a clip for the track. The image behind the dinner table is a detail from spatium forest, a monumental painting that she created to represent the conceptual space in which the dinner takes place. To echo the murky blue of that space, we had the record pressed on a blue marble vinyl by our friends at B-Side Factory here in France.
We released the vinyl in a signed and numbered limited edition of 100 copies. The first 25 copies came in an individually hand-painted Deluxe Box, which included an original painting, a hand-numbered certificate, a signed promotional photo of one of the characters, and a download code for an exclusive ambient version of the album.
The digital album is available on Lesteria’s bandcamp here.
